The unique design and accuracy of the Emkay 3185 makes it the most popular and comfortable of headsets recommended for speech recognition. The rigid boom keeps the microphone in the correct fixed position relative to the mouth even after long periods of dictation (no “boom droop” common with flexible booms). In a moderately noisy office environment the microphone virtually eliminates background noise. The D-Loop™ earpiece keeps the headset speaker about 2 cm from the centre of the ear. This adds considerably to comfort in long-term use as the ear is not covered. Sound is not "high fidelity" but is adequate for speech recognition applications.
The NR Series electret microphone element is a pressure gradient microphone (bi-directional).
